Complete answer for 2025-09-27 (Easy)
I began my session by looking at the Easy board, which is usually about finding the right home for the biggest numbers first.
I saw the sum target of 6 and immediately looked at the [6,1] and [3,4] dominoes as potential candidates, eventually finding that the placement of the [2,2] and [1,1] dominoes fell into place once the sum of 4 was satisfied. Moving on to the

Medium puzzle, the set of doubles from 0-0 to 4-4 made the logic much more restricted.
I focused on the sum of 7 region across three cells, knowing it had to use specific combinations of the available doubles, and used the 'greater than' and 'less than' hints to pin down the exact positions of the 2-2 and 3-3 tiles. The

NYT Pips hard answer for 2025-09-27
Complete answer for 2025-09-27 (Hard)
Hard puzzle was a much bigger challenge with 16 dominoes. I started by looking for the biggest constraint, which was the sum of 18 across three cells.
Since 18 is a very high target, it forced me to use high-value pips like 6s and 5s in that specific area. From there, I worked through the 'equal' and 'unequal' regions, which helped me filter out which dominoes could stay next to each other. By slowly filling in the smaller sum regions like the ones totaling 0 or 1, the rest of the board finally cleared up as the remaining dominoes only had one possible layout that didn't break the rules.
What I Learned
I learned that high-sum targets in large regions are the best way to start a Hard puzzle because they limit your options to just a few high-value dominoes.
I also noticed that the 'equal' regions act as a mirror, making it much easier to predict where a specific number needs to go even if you haven't placed the whole domino yet. It's really about finding those anchor points first.
