NYT Pips easy answer for 2025-10-03
Complete answer for 2025-10-03 (Easy)
I started today's Pips puzzles by looking for the most restricted areas first. In the Easy set, the sum of 0 at position (3,1) was a dead giveaway that I needed a zero there.
I quickly noticed that the empty cells at (0,2) and (1,4) acted as anchors for my dominoes, forcing the [1,2] and [1,3] pieces into specific spots. Moving to the

Complete answer for 2025-10-03 (Medium)
Medium puzzle, I immediately targeted the sum of 12 and the sum of 15. Since 15 across three cells is a high number, I knew I needed my larger pips like 6s and 5s there.
The equality regions were the trickiest part of the Medium level; I had to cross-reference which dominoes were left in my tray to see which ones had matching values on both ends or could satisfy the chain. By the time I hit the

NYT Pips hard answer for 2025-10-03
Complete answer for 2025-10-03 (Hard)
Hard puzzle, I was looking for the 'Greater than 11' constraint. In a standard domino set, only a 6 and a 6 make 12, so that locked in one piece immediately.
I then worked my way through the 'Less than 1' and 'Sum 3' regions, using a process of elimination for the remaining dominoes like the [4,6] and [3,4]. I always try to place the pieces with unique numbers first before tackling the ones that could fit in multiple places.
What I Learned
I learned that high sum targets are your best friends in the harder puzzles because they narrow down the possibilities so much. For instance, a sum of 15 in three cells usually requires a very specific combination of high-value dominoes.
I also realized how much I rely on the 'Empty' cells to define the boundaries of the board; they are basically free hints that tell you exactly where a domino cannot go. A tricky move today was the equality region in the Hard puzzle that spanned five different cells. It felt like a jigsaw puzzle within a jigsaw puzzle, and I had to be careful not to use up my doubles too early.
